Letters to the Editor
Sir, You have rightly pointed out in the Editorial `Subversive designs' (Nov. 26) that fanatical, religious majoritarian notions were at the bottom of the recent two attacks on Hindu temples in Jammu. To say that the `Gujarat carnage' has contributed to the aggressive thrust in Jammu and Kashmir is, however, irrelevant. The militant attacks have been going on even before the Gujarat incident. The subversive design of majoritarian concept, born with the two-nation theory of Jinnah, has been let loose right from 1947 in Jammu and Kashmir by Pakistan. It did not have to wait for the Gujarat carnage to take place to fuel it. Were not innocent Hindu pilgrims to Amarnath attacked and killed? Were not innocent families and villagers selectively chosen and butchered? Were not Pandits targeted and driven out?
A. Kalyanaraman,
* * * Sir, Which is the most powerful country in the world? Pakistan, being a paradise of terrorist groups, can be considered the most powerful. It is fighting covert wars against India for the last two decades. Latest is the Raghunath temple attack by which the ISI wanted to damage the secular fabric of our country. We can't expect anything from the international coalition against terrorism. They can only give lip service after each attack.
S.S. Sajith,
