A six-day wait for postmortem

By Our Staff Reporter

Chennai Oct. 22 . Postmortem was not conducted on the body of a 60-year-old woman for six days at Government General Hospital for reasons unknown.

Gracy, a resident of Palakkad, shifted to Chennai along with her son, Thomas, to earn a livelihood last week. She was knocked down by the rider of a Yamaha motorbike on the Stanley Viaduct on October 16 and sustained a head injury.

According to hospital sources, without a requisition from police officials, the post-mortem cannot be initiated. Mr. Thomas was noticed wandering around the hospital for the past six days and was provided food by people who sympathised with his condition, according to hospital sources.

Finally, after a complaint to the DIG on the indefinite delay and indifference of the police personnel, a postmortem was performed today.
