The 10-day conclave of 185 countries, which are parties to the Convention, would also focus on the concerns of the developing countries over their vulnerability to the various effects of climate change which covers areas from agriculture to health. One of the main items on the agenda is to finalise guidelines for the operationalisation of a new global fund to help them in overcoming the adverse impacts. The meet, among other things, is also scheduled to discuss the preparatory measures in respect of the Kyoto Protocol under the Convention, which provides for a detailed action plan for reduction in the emission of the greenhouse gases. The Protocol, which was adopted by the world community four years ago, is expected to come into force next year after Russia and Canada ratified it. They are expected to do so in the next few months. The conference would begin with official-level negotiations from October 24 to 29 and would be followed by a meeting of Ministers in charge of environment from October 30 to November 1.
