By Manas Dasgupta
Samirkhan Pathan (30), who was arrested three weeks ago from near the Geeta Mandir State Transport bus station here and who claimed to be a member of the Pakistan-based terrorist outfit, Jaish-e-Mohammad, was killed when he tried to "escape'' from the police cordon after snatching a police service revolver. P.P. Pandey, Joint Commissioner of the Crime Branch police, claimed that Samirkhan was taken to Usmanpura locality in the heart of the city on a transfer warrant around 2 a.m. to identify the spot where he had allegedly murdered a police constable in 1996. Samirkhan suddenly snatched the service revolver of an inspector and opened fire. None was injured. Two other inspectors then retaliated. Three bullets hit Samirkhan.
