Major, 6 militants killed in Jammu

Jammu Oct. 22. An army Major and six militants were killed in three separate encounters in Jammu region in the last 24 hours.

Police sources told The Hindu that an Army patrol led by Major Rana came under heavy fire from militants from atop a hill at Naika Majari. The Army men returned the fire.

However, Major Rana sustained two bullet injuries and died before he could be rushed to hospital.

In another incident at the Line of Control in Poonch sector, five to seven militants were spotted by the Army in Mankot with a huge quantity of arms, ammunition. In a long encounter lasting several hours, three militants were killed.

Three more militants were killed in a encounter in Gool area of Udhampur district.
