Pondicherry
By Our Staff Reporter
The residents living close to a Government Higher Secondary school, where the Minister came to participate in a function, waited for over two hours for the arrival of Mr. Namassivayam. The Minister along with the residents, walked down the narrow road unmindful of the silt and overflowing sewage water and heard their grievances. The Minister immediately contacted officials over phone to take steps to solve the problem. The Minister who was indisposed told the residents that he had come to the function inspite of fever and cold. He said already necessary programmes were finalised to provide roads and to link the big canal. He said that he fully agreed with the people that the drainage should be cleaned daily and that the garbage should be removed. Earlier before the Minister arrived, the Inspector of police, A.Nandagopal assured the residents that he would take up with the municipal authorities to improve the civic amenities. The commencement of the function of the Forest department was delayed because of the people's insistence that the Minister should visit the area to see for himself the plight of the residents.
