Netherlands team to kick-start Tirupur scheme

Coimbatore Oct. 22. A three-member team of the Centre for the Promotion of Imports from Developing Countries, Rotterdam, an agency of the Netherlands Ministry of Foreign Affairs, is at Tirupur to kick-start the Tirupur Target 2005 programme.

According to a release from the Secretary of Tirupur Exporters' Association, S.R.Ponnusami, the programme covers 32 companies, which will benefit from the expertise to be imparted by the team spread over 30 months.

The team studied the potential for developing value addition in Tirupur-based companies to enable the industry face the emerging competitive trading regime in Europe resulting from the phasing out of quotas. Subsequently, the CBI designed the programme, which would provide inputs to the selected companies on technology upgradation, fine-tuning marketing skills and training of personnel.

Besides, a programme for skill upgradation in the National Institute of Fashion Technology-TEA with regard to the emerging trends in designs would suggest curricula, providing gadgets and literature.

The team also worked out a common code of conduct, taking into account the requirements of buyers from the European Union. It would visit factories to study their requirements.

A detailed analysis of the findings would be presented to the companies at the end of the programme.

The TEA hoped that the 10-day visit of the CBI would help the Tirupur-based small and medium enterprises to develop their export capabilities.
