Salesman attempts suicide

By Our Staff Reporter

NEW DELHI OCT. 22. Apparently fed up with his employer's dubious ways of paying his salary, a 45-year-old man allegedly tried to set his employer and himself on fire in a shop at Roop Nagar in North Delhi late on Sunday night.

According to the police, Vasudev Sharma, a resident of Rohini, doused his employer, Ram Kumar, and himself with kerosene when the shop, where he works, was about to close on Sunday. Vasudev was about to set himself and Kumar ablaze with the help of a lighter when the customers and other salesmen stepped in and stopped him. Vasudev sustained injuries in the stomach during the scuffle and was admitted to the Bara Hindu Rao Hospital where his condition was reported to be stable. Meanwhile, preliminary investigations have revealed that Vasudev, who had been employed at the shop for the past 10 years, was angry with Kumar over the manner in which he was being given his salary. According to the Deputy Commissioner of Police (North), Sanjay Baniwal, Vasudev used to get Rs. 7,000 per month as salary.

However, Kumar used to make Vasudev sign a document in which his salary was mentioned as Rs. 3,500.
