Protest against remark on Sonia

SHIMOGA Oct. 22. The activists of the Shimoga District Youth Congress Committee staged a demonstration here on Tuesday to protest against the reported remarks of the Vishwa Hindu Parishat leader, Praveen Togadia, against the Congress President, Sonia Gandhi. The demonstrators took out a procession and burnt the effigy of Togadia at the Ameer Ahmed Circle.

In a memorandum to the Deputy Commissioner, the President of the Committee, S.Ravikumar, demanded that Togadia be arrested for his "provocative" remarks against Ms. Gandhi. He urged the Centre to ensure that such statements were not repeated either by the VHP leaders or those of the Sangh Parivar against the Congress President.

In a press release, the District unit of the National Students Union of India (NSUI) — the students' wing of the Congress — has condemned the reported remarks of Togadia against the Congress President. The Working President of the district unit of the NSUI, K.Devendrappa, said that the BJP and the Sangh Parivar, which were upset by the victory of the Congress in Jammu and Kashmir.
