'It is propaganda against VHP'

By Our Staff Correspondent

MANGALORE OCT. 22. The Vice-President of the Vishwa Hindu Parishat, Sadananda Kakade, on Tuesday alleged that there was a concerted mis-information campaign being unleashed by the ``anti-Hindu'' parties in the country against the VHP and Sangh Parivar keeping in view the approaching general election in Gujarat.

Addressing a press conference here, he cited the Togadia issue and said that it was an unintended statement that had been blown out of proportion by the Press and the Congress. He said Mr. Togadia was civilised enough not to refer to a woman in unparliamentary words such as quoted by the Congress leaders.

Mr. Kakade referring to instances from history said that the use of unparliamentary words was the tradition of the Congress and quoted some such ``great words'' allegedly to have been used by Pandit Nehru against Sardar Patel and later Rajiv Gandhi on the floor of the House against senior parliamentarian, Ram Jethmalani.

Mr. Kakade said that the various "anti-Hindu" parties, including the Communists, Congress, had tried to take advantage of the alleged lynching of five youths in Haryana. He said among the mob that beat up the youth to death there were none from the VHP and the Sangh Parivar. He said it was a sustained anti-Sangh Parivar campaign that had unduly dragged the name of the VHP and the Bajrang Dal in the episode.

He asked if the Congress was so concerned about the modesty of women, what was it doing when artist, M.F.Hussain, painted Goddess Saraswathi in bad taste? He announced that VHP would take up the construction of the Ram Mandir in early 2003 and as a precursor to the event there was a plan to mobilise 15 lakh "Ramasadhakas" to go to Ayodhya to help in construction activities.

The run-up to the temple construction would start from chanting ``Siddha Mantra'' by people belonging to 1.5 lakh villages, towns and cities. On the day of ``Punarvasu'' every village and town would organise special pujas in the name of Sri Rama. He said 60 per cent of the construction material for the Ram Temple at Ayodhya was ready and when the elite Sant group gave its consent, work would start.
