The Minister of State for Energy, Basavaraj Patil, will inaugurate the project, commissioned by Enercon India Ltd., on Wednesday. Seventeen wind energy units, each with 600 KW capacity along with a 66KVA sub-station, will be connected to the power grid of the Karnataka Power Transmission Corporation Ltd. (KPTCL) at Ramagiri. Yogesh Mehra, Managing Director of Enercon, said each unit was capable of generating an average of 15 lakh units of power a year. A plant load factor of 29 per cent was anticipated with peak generation between May and August. The group will sign a power purchase agreement (PPA) with the KPTCL for 10 years at the tariff of Rs. 3.32 per unit fixed for non-conventional energy by the Union Government. He said the State could generate 7,100 MW from wind energy and 95.86 MW was being tapped now. Eighty per cent of this was from plants commissioned by Enercon. Akhila Srinivasan, Managing Director of Shriram Group of Companies, said as the leading player in chit fund and hire purchase business, the group's aggregate turnover had crossed Rs. 4,500 crore. It was the only company financing purchase of second-hand trucks. As part of its micro credit effort, the group was helping women in rural areas of the State make plates and tumblers from areca palms.
