K.N. Somayaji nominated to Sanskrit board

BANGALORE OCT. 22 . K.N. Somayaji, Director of the Institute for Study and Promotion of Veda, Agama, and Shastra of Sringeri Sharada Peetham, Bangalore; M.A. Laxmi Tatachar, Director of the Academy of Sanskrit Research, Melkote; and B. Mahadevan of the Indian Institute of Management, Bangalore, have been nominated non-official members of the reconstituted Central Sanskrit Board.

Jagannath Misra is Chairman of the board. The tenure of non-official members will be three years. There are 13 official members on the board.

The board is entrusted with the following functions: The policy pertaining to the propagation and development of Sanskrit, the pattern of Sanskrit education at different levels, coordination of courses, teaching and similar activities, standardisation of syllabi, examination and degrees.
