Letters to the Editor
Sir, The report `Cow's life very important: VHP' (Oct. 19) gladdens one's heart as it reveals a pro-animal sway among the protectors of the majority community. Hindu philosophy says killing is "sin-less" because you kill only the cloth that the soul wears and never the soul itself. A few Dalits and Muslims can, therefore, always be eliminated without endangering one's chances of `swarga'. However, the burden now seems to be on the Science and Technology Ministry to accelerate advances in genetic engineering to enable birth of human beings as cows rather than as Dalits. One hopes that in the future Dalits will not have to convert to Christianity to escape caste oppression and genetic conversion as cows would be easier and safer.
