Five held for rape, murder

BANGALORE OCT. 9. Jnanabharathi police have arrested five persons who allegedly murdered a woman after gang-raping her in Kengeri police station limits in April 2001.

Police have identified the accused as Shivaraj (19), Anantha (21), Chandra alias Chandrashekhar (25), Prakasha (24), and Muniraj (35), all from S.K. Colony, Rajarajeshwarinagar.

On April 17, 2001, the accused allegedly entered the house of Girish at Pattanagere A.K. Colony at around midnight, when his wife, Suma (18), was alone. They raped her and smothered her to death to destroy evidence of rape, police said.

Stolen car seized

Kalasipalya police have arrested a youth and recovered a stolen car worth Rs. 1.1 lakh. Police have identified the accused as Prasad alias Renuka (22) of Pattanagere. They say Prasad, who was employed as a driver by J.P. Diwakar, stole the car on September 30. The car was seized and Prasad arrested in Mysore.
