An official release, quoting the Tourism and Fisheries Minister, K. V. Thomas, said administrative sanction has been accorded to projects totalling Rs. 134.5 lakhs for the development of various heritage, cultural and tourist spots. A pavilion will be constructed at the Golf Club in Kowdiar at a cost of Rs. 12.65 lakhs. The entrance of the Swati Thirunal Music College will be renovated at a cost of Rs. 12.65 lakhs. A sum of Rs. 49.87 lakhs will be spent for the renovation of the newly set up Suryakanthi Utsavanagiri in the premises of the imposing Kanakakunnu palace. The amount will be utilised for renovation and laying stones of the Utsavanagiri. The department has also allocated a sum of Rs. 20 lakhs for the development of the Koyikkal palace at Nedumangad. The lighting of the palace, construction of the lawn and walkway and renovation of the bathing ghat will be taken up with the sanctioned funds. The palace, constructed by Umayamma Rani 300 years ago, is presently under the Archaeology Department.
