The LDF convener, Paloli Mohammed Kutty, said in a statement here today, that the Opposition would go in for stronger agitations if the Government did not withdraw the tariff hike. However, the mood in the LDF seems to be against an agitation of the kind staged when the UDF Government went in for a steep increase in power tariff a month ago. The LDF State committee, which met here today, was of the general view that the LDF should take a realistic view in the matter. Mr. Mohammed Kutty said though the Government had put the additional burden on the people on account of the tariff hike at Rs. 35 crores, the actual burden would be double that. Even an ordinary domestic consumer would have to pay over Rs. 100 every month as power charges. CPI(M) flays it In a separate statement, the CPI(M) State secretary, Pinarayi Vijayan, called upon party workers and the people to register their strong protest against the tariff hike. He contended that instead of solving the problems of the KSEB, the tariff hike would aggravate the situation. He accused the Government of having turned the all-party meeting and the trade union representatives' conference to discuss the problems of the KSEB into a farce.
