11 killed, 30 injured in road accident

CHITRADURGA OCT. 9. Eleven persons, including four women and two children, were killed and 30 injured when a lorry and a mini-bus collided at Javanagondanahalli, near Hiriyur, on National Highway No. 4 this morning.

The dead were from Chitradurga city. Among the injured are 22 women and two children. They have been admitted to the Government Hospital here.

Police gave the names of the dead as Muzamil (32), his wife, Irfana Banu (25), their son, Musafil (4), Jamarunnesa (60), Akhilajan (45), Mohisina Banu (27), Arebina, a two-year-old girl, Imran (16), Anwar (24) and Mansur (25). The name of another victim was not available.

They were from Shadakappa Galli on Holalkere Road, Burujanahatti and Darji Colony here.

While five died on the spot, the others died in hospitals at Sira (Tumkur District) and Hiriyur. Musafil died at a private hospital here.

The accident took place when the family and relatives of Ismail Khan, a hotel owner in the city, were returning from Tumkur in the mini-bus after attending the wedding reception of Khan's daughter there. The lorry carrying iron bars was on its way to Bangalore. The driver of the lorry was taken to a private hospital with severe injuries.
