Prisoners observe fast

Chennai Oct. 9. Prisoners too joined the strike for the Cauvery cause today. In a show of solidarity with Tamil Nadu farmers, 1,950 inmates in the Coimbatore jail and 1,343 inmates of the Palayamkottai prison observed a 12-hour fast. They skipped breakfast and lunch. But a grand "dinner" awaited them in the evening. Moved by the prisoners' collective gesture, the prison authorities, in a "goodwill" gesture, offered them their favourite briyani dinner.
