Rain as low pressure troughs merge

By Our Special Correspondent

CHENNAI OCT. 9. Yesterday's trough of low pressure over southwest bay off the Tamil Nadu coast moved westward across the extreme south peninsula and merged with another trough of low pressure over southeast Arabian sea off the Kerala, Karnataka coast and adjoining Lakshadweep.

Most places in Kerala and coastal Karnataka received rainfall on Tuesday and Wednesday morning, besides many areas in Tamil Nadu, Pondicherry and Andhra Pradesh, according to a special bulletin issued this afternoon.

Among the areas that recorded high rainfall were Tiruvalla 12 cm, Thiruvananthapuram 10 cm and Kannur 8 cm, (all in Kerala), Tambaram, Adiramapatnam and Thiruthuraipoondi five cm each, and Nagapttinam and Vedaranyam 4 cm each, (all in Tamil Nadu).

``Rain or thundershower is likely to occur (in the next two days) at many places over Tamil Nadu, Pondicherry, Kerala, Lakshadweep and coastal Karnataka and a few places over south interior Karnataka, Rayalaseema and south coastal Andhra Pradesh''.
