PM should call CRA meet soon: Patil

By Our Special Correspondent

BANGALORE OCT. 9. The Minister for Water Resources, H.K.Patil, on Wednesday said that the expert panel's report on the water level in the Cauvery Basin reservoirs depicted the ground reality in Karnataka, and the Prime Minister, A.B. Vajpayee, should call a meeting of the Cauvery River Authority (CRA) soon to resolve the crisis.

Talking to presspersons near Channapatna, Mr. Patil said that the Supreme Court did not take into account the findings of the report, hence the Prime Minister should hold talks with the chief ministers of Karnataka and Tamil Nadu to resolve the issue.

Displaying a copy of the weather forecast report, he said rains were expected in a day or two in coastal Karnataka, south interior Karnataka, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, and coastal Andhra Pradesh. On the Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister, N.Chandrababu Naidu's readiness to give power to Karnataka in exchange for water from the Alamatti Dam, Mr. Patil said Mr. Krishna would take a decision on it soon.

The padayatra convenor, Y.K.Ramaiah, blamed the Union governments headed by H.D.Deve Gowda and I.K.Gujral for the water dispute.
