Central aid likely to tackle water shortage

By Our Staff Correspondent

GULBARGA Oct. 9. The Minister of State for Revenue, Mallikarjun Nagappa, has said that the Union Government is likely to release Rs. 10 crore to tackle the drinking water shortage in the State.

Talking to presspersons here today, Mr. Nagappa said that the State Government had sought Rs. 80 crore for drilling borewells and for other drinking water supply programmes in rural areas. According to indications, the Centre was likely to release Rs. 10 crore immediately. The State Government would also release Rs. 10 lakh to each taluk for taking up drinking water projects.

Despite requests made for release of sufficient funds for taking up drought relief works, the Centre had been far from helpful to the State, Mr. Nagappa said.
