Speaking at the valedictory function of the Junior Red Cross' National Integration Camp here on Wednesday, he expressed happiness that these values of service were being instilled in the younger generation. It is the younger generation who are the future of the country and it was the duty of both the parents and Government to help build conditions for nurturing the imagination of children and developing their knowledge. Listing the various measures taken by the State Government to eradicate child labour and put children in schools, Mr. Naidu added that along with education it was necessary to instil proper values and character in children. Underlining the relevance of `national integration' -- the theme of the camp -- Mr. Naidu told the children that religious tolerance and communal harmony was essential for the country's development. It was not enough to passively tolerate the other community and its practices. Rather, one should actively participate in each other's festivals and build bridges of friendship, he said and recounted some of the recent examples of Muslims in the city taking part in the Ganesh festival as a model to be replicated. He spoke glowingly of the creativity of the children and praised the efforts and ideas expressed by them in the exhibition titled `Water -- the Elixir of Life' which had been put up. Earlier, Haripriya Rangarajan, wife of the Governor and Chairperson of the AP State Red Cross, spoke about the enriching experiences of the children at the camp and the various activities they had taken part in. Teegala Krishna Reddy, Mayor of Hyderabad, K. Rajya Lakshmi, Secretary, AP Red Cross, and Ganga Viswanathan, Secretary, Junior Red Cross, spoke.
