MSR vows to take on Govt.

By Our Special Correspondent

HYDERABAD Oct. 9. The Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee president, M. Satyanarayana Rao, on Wednesday criticised the State Government for privatising and commercialising education, making it inaccessible to the poor.

Speaking at a seminar on "Commercialisation of education,'' organised by the State unit of the National Students Union of India (NSUI) at the Nizam College here, Mr. Rao said the party would support any agitation to be launched by the NSUI, against the State Government's moves. "We have to eradicate the evil as the career of deprived children is at stake. Education cannot be the exclusive privilege of the affluent''.

Borrowing a phrase from P. Sudhakar Reddy, APCC general secretary, who spoke earlier, he likened the students' power to that of "atomic energy'' but cautioned that it should be used for constructive and not destructive purposes. Referring to the saffronisation of education, he said it was unfortunate that the Supreme Court had given a judgment upholding the discretion of the Government.
