Hockey
Els van Breda Vriesmann, president, and Mr. Peter Cohen, secretary, will represent FIH, while Mrs. Vidya Stokes, president, and K. Jothikumaran, secretary, are to attend the meeting on behalf of India. The merger of Indian men and women hockey federations which took place before the Sydney Olympics on the directive of the FIH enjoined on India to frame a new constitution to be approved by the FIH. A meeting in this regard to debate on some clauses in the statutes was planned at Macau during the women's Champions Trophy but had to be postponed owing to the inability of Mrs. Stokes to be present at Macau. The FIH then agreed to meet the Indian officials here at Busan to discuss and approve the statutes prepared by the Indian Hockey Confederation. Aside of this, the Indian officials will also discuss their request for an FIH grant to the proposed umpires seminar in New Delhi next month, from November 21-25, during the Jawaharlal Nehru memorial tournament. About 30 men and women umpires from India and around eight to 10 from Asia are expected to participate in the seminar. The IHC is also contemplating of utilising some of the Asian graded umpires for supervision of matches during the Jawaharlal Nehru tournament. Our Hockey Correspondent
