Road divider at Greenlands to go

By Marri Ramu

HYDERABAD July 15. The road-divider in front of the Greenlands guest house which had resulted in road congestion and frequent traffic jams, will be removed.

A decision to this effect was taken today by the city traffic police following observations that the huge vehicular traffic coming from Begumpet flyover and proceeding towards Raj Bhavan road was getting crowded at Greenlands traffic signals due to the improperly designed divider.

The two to four feet wide and 25-yard long divider in front of the Greenlands guesthouse was laid to segregate the traffic coming from the flyover and Greenpark hotel. However, the diversion of traffic coming from Greenpark hotel to Somajiguda via Country club had made the divider ineffective.

The large volume of vehicular traffic coming from the flyover, Greenpark hotel and Umanagar further choked the road from the flyover end to the junction. As half of the vehicular traffic proceeding towards Ameerpet turn to right at the junction, the vehicles occupy the entire road space in front of the signals.

As a result, vehicle drivers moving towards Somajiguda are stuck up in the crowd. The 80-feet single road in front of Greenlands guest house is bifurcated by the divider. Thus, the 40-feet wide road (abutting Greenlands guest house) running parallel to the 25-yard divider is not being used properly.

The divider was also supposed to provide uninterrupted passage to vehicles coming from Pulla Reddy sweet house and turning to right to proceed towards Blue Moon Hotel. It was observed that very few vehicle drivers from Pulla Reddy sweet house side were taking right turn at the junction.

The Additional Commissioner of Police, D.T. Nayak, DCP-1 (Traffic), K. Srinivas Reddy and other senior officials personally observed the traffic flow at the junction on Monday. They subscribed to the view that the divider had become useless and turned into an obstruction for free flow of traffic from flyover side.
