Taking the missile man, A.P.J. Abdul Kalam's victory as a foregone conclusion against the Left-supported candidate, Lakshmi Sahgal, the Government has initiated intensive discussions with him. But what put the Government in a bind was Dr. Kalam's insistence that 1,000 school children attend his swearing-in ceremony. Finally, it is learnt, that Dr. Kalam who has already shown that he is his own man got his way and the Government yielded to accommodating 100 school children in the Central Hall. Dr. Kalam also had his own ideas about the way he would dress during the swearing-in: in casuals. But it was suggested to him that a formal "jodhpuri'' or "bandgala'' would be more befitting of the occasion. He reluctantly agreed, but those waiting on him are having nightmares on what is to follow.
