By Our Staff Reporter

KHAMMAM July 15. The Yellandu police unearthed a People's War dump, seized 60 olive green uniforms ready for dispatch to a military platoon and arrested nine persons -- mainly couriers and contacts of the squads operating in Khammam district, according to the Superintendent of Police, V. V. Srinivasa Rao, on Monday.

Addressing a news conference along with the Yellandu Sub-Divisional Police Officer, Malhal Rao, he said a photographer, Md. Sultan was booked under POTA. All others were arrested under the Securities Act.

He informed that Sultan was one of the PW activists accused in the bomb attack on the Yellandu police station on May 23, 1988.

He met Sudhakar and Damodar, commanders of the PWG local Guerrilla squads of Gundala and Kothagudem respectively three months ago. He purchased the olive green uniform cloth for which he had received Rs. 10,000 from the party and got 12 uniforms stitched from a tailor in Yellandu and supplied them to the PW squads.

He placed order for another 60 olive green uniforms with the same tailor after his second meeting with the same LGS commanders about one and a half month ago. He was paid Rs. 40,000 for the purpose. The uniforms were seized from the house of one Chappalapalli Rammurthy and the tailor was identified as Md. Feroz. The seizure was made with the information revealed by the documents the police got after the Mamillavai encounter.

The Superintendent of Police said the photographer drafted the services of a registered medical practitioner, Narender, for collecting the blood sample of Lachanna alias Sudheer, member of the East Zonal Command Committee on the outskirts of Muttapuram village and sent for clinical tests. The tailor Md. Feroz, a resident of Chintoni Chalaka village in Tekulapalli mandal was also arrested along with him. Besides them, one Chippalapalli Rammurthy, another tailor based at Yellandu town, Bandi Narendra Kumar alias Narender, registered medical practitioner, Yannam Venkanna, Komaram Musalaiah and Punem Buchaiah were also arrested for their alleged links with the PW dalams.
