Earlier an action plan will commence on August 19 when workers across the country would take a pledge to defeat the `anti-labour' policies, to mark the launch of a week-long awareness campaign. It would be followed by the district-level mass action programmes between September 18 and 23, and State-level joint rallies between September 23 and 28. The assembly called for a halt to privatisation of profit-making and potentially viable public sector undertakings. It urged the Government not to change labour laws, including the Industrial Disputes Act and the Contract Labour (Regulation and Abolition) Act, favouring the employers. The central trade unions, which organised the assembly, included the AITUC, CITU, HMS, and INTUC.
