Pondicherry July 15. All 30 elected legislators of Pondicherry exercised their franchise in the Presidential poll, only in the afternoon today as a mark of solidarity with protesting newsmen.

The polling was fixed for 10 a.m. but the Chief Minister, N. Rangasamy, his Cabinet colleagues and legislators turned up only after 1 p.m.

The newsmen were protesting exclusion of the names of some reporters for issue of authorisation letters.

An official source however, said the authorisation letters were issued to nearly 35 mediapersons, in accordance with Election Commission guidelines.

The AIADMK legislator, A. Anbalagan, was the first to exercise his vote at 1.15 p.m. in the committee room on the Assembly premises and he was followed by others.

The ballot box would be flown to New Delhi for centralised counting.
