The sources denied that there were attempts to bypass the KPCC in the nomination of K.P. Anil Kumar as Youth Congress president. The `third group' had nominated M.M. Nazir for the post three months ago, but his name could not be considered as he was overaged for the post. The AICC secretary, Hariprasad, had asked Mr. Chennithala to suggest another name and that was how Mr. Anil Kumar's name was forwarded to the AICC as per its directions. Mr. Chennithala is understood to have told Mr. Muraleedharan that his supporters did not want to create unnecessary problems and that he was of the view that all factions in the party should get their due and that he was willing to cooperate with the KPCC's efforts to strengthen the party. The sources acknowledged the role played by the Chief Minister, A.K. Antony, who had stood by the agreement arrived at in the presence of Mr. Muraleedharan, Vayalar Ravi, Oommen Chandy and Mr. Chennithala that the post of Youth Congress president should go to the `third group' nominee.
