The meeting was chaired by Y. C. Nanda, Chairman of NABARD and attended by Vepa Kamesam, Deputy Governor, Reserve Bank of India, and M. V. S. Chalapathi Rao, Managing Director, NABARD. Some of the highlights of these sanctions are projects pertaining to irrigation projects in Karnataka and Nagaland, rural water supply in A.P., Gujarat and Punjab, rural public health in Tamil Nadu, flood rescue centre and primary school in West Bengal, rural road projects with 671 kilometre length and rural bridge projects with 1973 metre length have also been sanctioned. On completion of these projects, connectivity/improved connectivity would be provided to 1,225 villages, 343 marketing centres, 188 tourist spots and 234 pilgrim centres. The irrigation projects are expected to help create additional irrigation potential in 3,503 hectares. The rural water supply projects sanctioned in three States would provide drinking water to 731 habitations.
