`Crime against humanity'

By Our Staff Reporter

Jammu July 15. The former Hurriyat Conference Chairman, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, today described the massacre of 28 people in Rajiv Nagar as "an act of terrorism and a crime against humanity".

Talking to The Hindu, he said, "I have no hesitation in calling the killing of innocent people which included children as an act of terrorism and no body can claim to represent any cause by killing innocents". According to him who ever had done this was the biggest enemy of the people of Jammu and Kashmir and there was a serious need to identify these elements.Demanding an impartial probe into the incident, he appealed to the people not to get provoked. There was a need to remain calm and maintain harmony at this hour of crisis and the people of all the three regions of the State should put up a brave front, he added.

Our New Delhi Special Correspondent writes:

The Jammu and Kashmir National Panthers Party demanded the dismissal of the National Conference Government, for failure to protect the lives of innocent people. In a statement in New Delhi, the party chief, Bhim Singh, demanded imposition of Governor's rule in the State.
