Kaif becomes Allahabad's darling

Allahabad July 15. Mohammad Kaif, who played a vital role in India's splendid victory against England in the Natwest Trophy finals at Lords, has become a darling of Allahabad residents.

Greetings, congratulatory messages and press notes have been pouring in at the Kydganj residence of Mohammad Kaif and in the newspaper offices here.

Ranji selector R.P. Bhatnagar said that Kaif's match winning innings enabled India to win a one-day final after a line-up of nine defeats. ``I would like to congratulate Kaif for his marvellous innings,'' he added.

Tahir Hasan, member of Uttar Pradesh Cricket Association, said Kaif had inspired the U.P. cricketers to come forward by displaying a rock-like determination and dedication to the game. NIS coach Devesh Mishra who also happened to be Kaif's coach in his early days said ``Kaif has tremendous determination. He has the elusive ability to produce his best under pressure.''

The Allahabad Medical Association, in its meeting, has decided to offer free medical facilities and treatment to Kaif, whenever he was Allahabad.— UNI
