Deccan Park getting ready for inauguration

By Our Staff Reporter

HYDERABAD April 29. The 70-acre stretch of land that is shaping up as The Quli Qutub Shah Urban Development Authority's `Deccan Park' will be ready for inauguration by the Chief Minister, N. Chandrababu Naidu by the first week of May, according to the authority's Administrator, J.R. Anand.

Taking presspersons through the park that is located between the Golconda Fort and the Qutub Shahi Tombs, he said that the project was executed over a period of one-and-a-half years to two years at a cost of Rs. 2.70 crores. There were some areas that needed to be grass-topped, but he said it would be over in a month or two.

Explaining the highlights of the park, he said it had the biggest swimming pool in the twin cities and the longest rail track, about 3 kilometres, an 800- metre go-karting track and it was the largest in the twin cities. Even on a shoe-string budget, the team of officials, mainly drafted from other departments on deputation duty, had managed to do a decent job, he said.

The park had a boating facility and four pedal boats were ready in the artificially-created water body, Chandra Sagar.

Other attractions are the 25 central water fountains, two water falls and a `lazy' river that wended its way through the park. The open air stadium had a 60-feet by 40-feet stage and the stadium could seat more than 10,000 people, Mr. Anand said.
