Submitting a status report on the progress of the investigation into the case, the investigating officer (IO), Circle Officer Anil Samaniya, submitted before a Division Bench comprising Justice B.A. Khan and Justice V.S. Aggarwal that the third accused in the case, Sukhbir Singh alias Pehelwan, had been declared a proclaimed offender and an award of Rs. 50,000 for his arrest. The IO said that the case had been committed for sessions trial, and the District Judge had fixed May 3 for allotting the case to an Additional Sessions Judge for starting argument on the charge. The Bench asked the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Ghaziabad, to file another status report on the progress of the case by May 13. Investigation into the case is being monitored by the High Court. It has asked the SSP to personally associate with the case. The High Court took the probe into its hands on a petition by the mother of Nitish Katara, Neelam Katara. Nitish Katara, son of Nisith Katara, a Joint Secretary in the Shipping Ministry, was allegedly abducted from a marriage party and murdered by Vikas and Vishal in February.
