The interest would be given on the amount deposited at the time of application till such time the money is refunded to them. Addressing a press conference here, the Delhi Industry Minister, Deep Chand Bandhu, said the Cabinet, which met under the leadership of Chief Minister, Sheila Dikshit, also decided that the Delhi Government would move an application in the Supreme Court for extension of the last date for payment of balance amount towards the cost of industrial plots and flatted factories, as may be the case. It may be recalled that Mr. Bandhu had given an assurance in this regard on the floor of the House in the last session of the Assembly. Mr. Bandhu disclosed that a total of 51,851 applications were received. After scrutiny of the applications was over, 27,700 units were found eligible for allotment of alternative industrial plots. For relocating the units, land was acquired in Bawana where industrial plots had been developed for eligible applicants. So far Delhi State Industrial Development Corporation has made allotments to 16,394 units in Bawana and other industrial areas. Similarly, at the time of inviting applications, the Industries Department had asked the applicant units to deposit Rs. 300 per sq meter as earnest money in respect of industrial plots. With regard to flatted factories, the applicant units were required to deposit earnest money of Rs. 10,000 for a 25 sq meter flatted factory and Rs. 25,000 for 50 sq meter size flatted factory. But a dispute had arisen over the failure of the Government to not only reimburse the money to the ineligible applications but also not giving them any interest on their principle amount. On the other hand, the Government announced that it would charge interest from all those people who had delayed making payments for the plots allotted to them. A large number of MLAs had also raised the issue and demanded that Government should pay interest to those people whose applications had been rejected but have not been refunded money for the past more than five years.
