Fake currency notes of the denomination of Rs. 100, for Rs. 2.77 lakh, a computer, and screen printing equipment, worth Rs. 1 lakh, that were used to print the notes, have been seized from the accused. On a tip off, police raided Hotel Hindustan in Gandhinagar on April 23 and arrested Shyam Ganaraj alias Jnanaraj alias Raj (31) of Thirunalveli and S. Chandramohan alias Mohan (50) of Dindigul in Tamil Nadu. Police said Ganaraj was a graduate who was trained in the use of computers. The Andhra Pradesh police seized fake currency notes for a total of Rs. 10 lakh after arresting Chandramohan, who was circulating them in Kotthacheravu. After his release from jail, Chandramohan, along with Ganaraj and another associate, Jaykanth, circulated fake currency notes in Madurai. The CID officers in Madurai seized fake currency notes and computers worth Rs. 3 lakh from them. Investigations have revealed that the accused, who had been released on bail, were operating from Bangalore. They had issued fake currency notes to Deshpande of Raichur and taken Rs. 75,000 from him.
Held for impersonation
A youth, who was impersonating a candidate at the examinations for the recruitment of constables to the Civil, Women, and Armed Reserve Police here on Sunday, was arrested by the Bangalore City police. Prakash (22) of Kengeri Satellite Town, 2nd Stage, was found impersonating Basavanappa Dya Harijana when the invigilator checked the hall ticket at the examination centre in Aloysius School, Assey Road.
Burglary at CoD quarters
Burglars broke into a house in the Corps of Detectives quarters and stole electronic goods and other articles worth Rs. 24,000. According to the complainant, Datta Prasad, burglars broke into the quarters at Austin Town on Saturday, and stole a "Handycam", five wrist watches, and two Rayban sunglasses. The Ashoknagar police have registered a case.
Case of cheating
A credit card holder was cheated of Rs. 42,000 in cash by two persons on April 22. According to police, Kavitha phoned Syed Azizuddin of Hutchins Road, and said that his credit card had expired, and that she would send "her colleague", Vinod, for renewing the card. Vinod came to Mr. Azizuddin's house, collected his credit card, and said he would receive a new card soon. A few days later, Mr. Azizuddin discovered that Rs. 40,000 had been withdrawn from the ATM on Wheeler's Road and Rs. 2,000 from Malleswaram, using his card.
Chain snatched
A gold chain worth Rs. 6,000 was snatched from Rajanna, a resident of 1st Main Road, R.T. Nagar, on Sunday night.
