SRINAGAR APRIL 29. At least three persons, including a militant, were killed and 25 others injured in a gun battle in Surankot of Poonch district.

A fidayeen squad struck today in broad daylight in Hari Mohalla of Surankot township and attacked an Army vehicle. The militants hurled grenades and opened fire in a crowded market injuring 25 persons, including five security personnel. The injured were rushed to hospital. Two civilians succumbed to injuries in the hospital, a senior police officer told The Hindu over phone from Poonch. Later, the security forces cordoned off the area and an encounter followed in which one militant was killed.

A woman, Gulshana Bano, was killed in Chechkot near Awantipore today when militants attacked an Army convoy. Defence spokesman, Lt. Col.
