Addressing a press conference at the Pathanamthitta Press Club today, Mr. Puthusserry said the Commission had received a complaint that "Mr. George had received Rs. 25,000 from one Kurien Joseph (PW1) through K.K. Kurien (PW4) for the purpose of securing a job as teacher for their sister, K.K. Thresiamma, in Chemmalamattom High School.'' The Commission chaired by Justice G. Balagangandharan Nair came to the conclusion that Mr. George had ``committed corruption within the meaning of Section 3(1)(C) of the Kerala Public Men Prevention of Corruption Act.'' It also maintained that ``under Section 13(I) of the Act, we have to make a declaration in our report under Section 12(I) that the public men against whom the allegation of corruption has been substantiated should not continue to hold the post held by him.'' But, as Mr. George was not an MLA in 1998, the direction has become infructous, Mr. Puthusserry said. However, the Commission directed that "the amount of Rs. 500 deposited by the petitioner will be refunded to him.'' Mr. Puthusserry said that the former Chief Minister, E.K. Nayanar, in an anthology of his speeches in the Assembly had clearly mentioned the proven corruption charge against Mr. George. He alleged that Mr. George, who had declared in the State Assembly on March 11, 2002 that he would relinquish the legislator's post, if somebody proves a corruption charge against him or even take it up to the Speaker, has no moral right to continue in the post in view of the findings of the Commission. Mr. Puthusserry said the Commission report was available in the Assembly Library.
