Belgium exploring investments in Mysore

By Our Staff Correspondent

MYSORE APRIL 29. Jayant Nadiger, Trade Commissioner of Flanders, Belgium, said here on Monday that Mysore had good potential for investments from Belgium.

He told presspersons at the Mysore Chamber of Commerce and Industry that Belgium was exploring business opportunities for its industries in India, and food processing and microelectronics were some sectors in which investments could be made in Mysore. Environmental technologies, solid waste management, automobile component manufacturing, post-harvest technologies, and packaging were the other focus areas of Belgium investments here.

He said the presence of the Central Food Technological Research Institute could provide opportunities for investments in food processing. Belgium could also offer technical knowledge in biotechnology since tremendous work was being done there in the field of genome.

He was working on the strengths of Belgium's industry, and that industrially developed cities in India could offer opportunities for entrepreneurs to invest. Asked about the potential of other cities in the State, he said Mangalore offered a good investment point for dredging activities, and the State could export IT-related products and services.

Mr. Nadiger said tourism was another sector that could be mutually explored. There were several tourist destinations in Belgium, and the medieval city of Blugge was promoting tourism and business. The historical and cultural aspects of the ancient cities in the State could emerge as an attractive tourist destination for the citizens of Belgium. Stating that Belgium had been traditionally known for glass and small products, he said the country was exploring opportunities to sell technologically advanced products also.
