Case against minister `common thing'

By Our Special Correspondent

Bangalore April 29. The KPCC President, Allum Veerabhadrappa, has described as a "common thing" the Bellary District police registering a case against the Minister of State for Rural Development and Panchayat Raj, M. Diwakar Babu.

Speaking to presspersons today, Mr. Veerabhadrappa saw no reason for Mr. Babu to resign. He noted that the dispute arose over the observance of Valmiki Jayanti. The local BJP had insisted on its observance on a particular day, and a dispute arose (Mr. Veerabhadrappa and Mr. Babu belong to Bellary District).

The PCC President also said that the performance of ministers would be judged on criteria including their work for the party. Their contribution at the district and block Congress levels would be considered. He had been questioned about the failure of most of the ministers to attend the Congress Bhavan on the days fixed for them. Records would be maintained about the number of visits made by ministers to party offices, including the Congress Bhavan here.
