By Our Staff Reporter

CHENNAI APRIL 29. TI Cycles of India, a unit of Tube Investment of the Murugappa Group, plans to duplicate its model adopted at Nashik in all other regions. TI Cycles will take care of critical areas of bicycle manufacturing and outsource all other components. At present, the Nashik plant will cater to both western and northern markets, while the Chennai (Ambattur) plant will be the hub for South. As and when the northern market picks up, the company will create similar hubs in other regions too, says the company's President, G. Hari.

At a press conference here today, Mr. Hari said the company had already invested over Rs. 15 crores in the Ambattur plant, which would cater to both domestic and export markets. This plant had a production capacity of 36 lakh cycles while the Nashik plant six lakh cycles annually. TI Cycles, which concentrates on steel-based body for both domestic and export markets, was also contemplating to manufacture aluminium-based body for exports.

The company had already opened an office in China. The new outfit will also help the company to import accessories for its bicycles.
