Main draw ties delayed

BANGALORE April 29. A heavy backlog of qualifying ties and late arrival of some of the direct entrants delayed the start of the main draw rounds of the Embassy-AITA ranking tournament for under-14 and under-16 boys and girls here on Monday.

Adding to the woes of the organisers was the non-availability of courts after certain hours as the members of institutions like Bowring, insisted on using the courts.

Only the girls' under-14 and under-16 qualifiers were spotted while the process remained incomplete in the boys' sections.

The qualifiers: girls: under-14 singles: Unnati Purushotham, Prerna Mythri ,M.Nirositha and Supriya. Under-16 singles: Afreen J.,Swathika,Unnati Purushotham and Oormila Ram.

The results (first round): children under-10 singles: Yamini Reddy bt A. Swaroop 6-5; Hemanth Kumar bt Akshay Punjabi 6-2; Divith bt Nikhil 6-4; Nehar bt Varun 6-2; Sumukh bt R. Manush 6-2; Monish bt Kiran 6-2; Mohammed Asan bt M.
