Top athletes for National meet

NEW DELHI APRIL 29. Top athletes including Shakti Singh, P. Anil Kumar, Jagdish Bishnoi, K. M. Beenamol, Neelam J. Singh and Anju George are expected to participate in the first National circuit meet, which will be held at the Nehru Stadium here on Wednesday.

The performance in the first meet of the season will be taken into consideration for the selection of the squad for the three Asian Grand Prix meets to be held in Hyderabad (May 18), Bangkok (May 21) and Manila (May 26). According to the Amateur Athletic Federation of India (AAFI), 15 events will be conducted in Hyderabad.

The AAFI has changed the schedule for the opening meet as three events; men's long jump and women's hammer throw and javelin throw have been dropped. Instead, three events have been added in the men's section _ javelin throw, pole vault and discus throw.

The schedule: National circuit meet in Delhi: Men: 100m, 400m, 800m, 5000m, pole vault, shot put, discus, javelin, hammer and 4x100m.

Women: 100m, 400m, 800m, long jump, discus and 4x100m.

Asian Grand Prix in Hyderabad: Men: 100m, 400m, 800m, 3000m, 400m hurdles, high jump, triple jump, shot put and javelin.

Women: 100m, 400m, 800m, 100m hurdles, long jump and discus.
