TDP's dilemma

Sir, — The Telugu Desam Party seems to be playing the Hamlet till the D' day. Its younger brother, the National Conference, also seems be tuning his second fiddle to the same pitch.

The practical puzzle of the minority votes apart, there could be an ideological twist also to this dilemma.

The law and order problem is a State issue. A state party cannot support the idea of Parliament sitting in judgment on those issues.

The TDP was one of those parties which had sought the ouster of the Narendra Modi Government. Maybe that was its "national conscience''. Now it is faced with the "regional conscience''. Perhaps, this is a sad commentary on the philosophy of coalition just for convenience's sake to assume power wherever there is a void.

R.K. Divakara,

Bangalore

Sir, — The Chief Minister is not above the secular character of the nation. Secular character of the country is the supreme security to the nation in general and to the minorities in particular. This security is undermined in Gujarat. The Prime Minister seems to be a lubricant in the piston of the Sangh Parivar. The demand of the Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister, N. Chandrababu Naidu, is right.

He is the main cause for enabling the NDA Government to function till now. He is not wrong in demanding the removal of Narendra Modi as Gujarat Chief Minister.

V. Suryarao,

Samalkot, A.P.
