State has become breeding ground for terrorists: BJP
By Our Staff Reporter

ALAPPUZHA, Dec. 8. The BJP Ernakulam zonal committee president, Mr. A. N. Radhakrishnan, at a press conference held here today has said that the State had become a breeding ground of terrorists under the UDF Government.

Mr. Radhakrishnan pointed out that the reckless violence unleashed by certain elements in connection with the hartal on December 6 by the PDP was ample proof of the influence wielded by `fundamentalist' forces in the administration. Mr. Radhakrishnan said that the police had remained mute spectators when miscreants destroyed property and attacked the public.

Mr. Radhakrishnan said that in the rallies organised by the PDP, workers of the NDF and the banned SIMI also participated. He said that the speeches of some of the Ministers of the UDF Government on certain occasions were encouraging the miscreants.

Mr. Radhakrishnan pointed out that religious harmony that existed in the State was being destroyed under the UDF Government. On the violence in Alappuzha district on the day of hartal, Mr. Radhakrishnan said it had started at Ambalappuzha and later spread to Alappuzha, Haripad, Kayamkulam and other areas.

Mr. Radhakrishnan decried the attack on the BJP office at Pathanamthitta this morning. According to him, it proved that the extremist forces in the State had become strong enough to challenge peace in the State. The BJP Alappuzha district president, Mr. K. S. Rajan, the general secretary, Mr. D. Krishnan, and Mr. Babu, councillor of the BJP in Alappuzha municipality participated in the press meet.

Meanwhile, speaking to the press at Cherthala, the Chief Minister, Mr. A. K. Antony, today promised firm action against those who indulged in violence. The Government was aware of the peculiar situation existing in the State after the U.S. attack on Afghanistan, Mr. Antony said. He also promised action against those who attacked presspersons at the Alappuzha district court premises.
