BJP flays attack
By Our Staff Reporter
PATHANAMTHITTA, DEC. 8. The BJP State general secretary, Mr. P. P. Mukundan, has alleged that the violence in Pathanamthitta on Friday night was the latest in the chain of attacks which have been masterminded by certain religious terrorists during the past few months.
Addressing a press conference here today, Mr. Mukundan demanded the immediate arrest of the culprits behind the attack on the BJP office in Pathanamthitta and also on Sabarimala pilgrims on Friday night.
Mr. Mukundan alleged that the Congress in the State was scared of some fundamentalist forces that might have been extending political support to it all along and Mr. A. K. Antony's blind opposition to the POTO should be taken in this spirit.
The BJP leader said that he had already conveyed the
precarious law and order situation in Kerala to the party central leadership.
He said that the UDF Government was quite unlikely to complete its full term with its existing police policy.
Mr. Mukundan alleged that the police had let free three anti-socials who were taken into custody following the attack on Sabarimala pilgrims and the Chief Minister should make it clear that on whose direction were they let free.
According to Mr. Mukundan, ``it is shame to a literate State like Kerala that the ruling party that holds the Home portfolio has been yielding to pressure from fundamentalist outfits. leaving the State in anarchy.''
He also demanded that the Government pay compensation to the victims of Friday's violence in Pathanamthitta.
He alleged that the authorities had miserably failed in ensuring effective security measures despite the warnings given by both the State and the Central intelligence agencies of possible extremist strikes in the district in view of the ongoing Sabarimala pilgrim season.
VHP flays attack
Addressing a press conference here today, the Viswa Hindu Parishad State organising secretary, Mr. Kummanam Rajashekharan, alleged that some hidden forces in the Government have been hindering the State police from taking sincere attempts to contain religious terrorism in the State.
It was unfortunate that not even a single elected member of the State Assembly had come forward to protest against the recent attacks on Sabarimala pilgrims in different parts of the State, Mr. Rajashekharan added.
Both Mr. Mukundan and Mr. Rajashekharan visited the BJP office which was attacked allegedly by the National Development Front activists on Friday night.
