Peddi Reddy swears loyalty to Naidu
By Our Staff Reporter

KARIMNAGAR, DEC. 8. The former Minister for Tourism and Huzurabad TDP legislator, Mr. E. Peddi Reddy, has clarified that he has not confronted the Chief Minister, Mr. N. Chandrababu Naidu, over his removal from the Cabinet during the recent reshuffle. However, he said, ``I asked the Chief Minister about why I was removed from the Cabinet out of close intimacy with him as a brother.''

Mr. Peddi Reddy told newsmen here on Saturday that he had strived for the development of the district on all fronts and also development of the party as a loyal worker even if some section of party leaders did not cooperate with him. He said the TDP lost in the Karimnagar Zilla Parishad polls following the party's failure to clinch an electoral alliance with the BJP. ``I tried for an alliance with the BJP, but some leaders (whom the CM also knows) refused,'' he pointed out.

The TDP secured 9 ZPTC seats and polled 39 per cent votes, the TRS which occupied ZP chairman post had won 21 seats and secured 39 per cent votes, the Congress won 19 ZPTCs with 19 per cent votes and the BJP secured five ZPTCs with seven per cent, he said, adding that ``we would have snatched ZP if we had an alliance with the BJP.'' He said after the defeat of the party in the ZP elections he had offered to resign to his minister post. However, the Chief Minister had asked him not to resign as the TDP had not lost its vote bank.

Listing various achievements during his regime as Minister in the district and the State, he said the district had set milestones in the implementation of family planning programmes, women empowerment, Neeru-Meeru, Food-for-work,etc. He said he strived for the development of the district on all fronts such as education, health, protected water supply, laying of roads, sanctioning of seven engineering colleges, two medical colleges. He said he had also strived for taking up SRSP flood flow canal with the Government and providing additional ayacut by modernisation of canals of the SRSP.

The district topped in the implementation of Food-for- work by involving all elected representatives including sarpanches, MPTCs, ZPTCs and mandal presidents. He appealed to the Chief Minister to release additional quantity of rice to the district for the implementation of Food-for-work.

He said he had discharged his duties as a dedicated worker for the development of the district as well as the State on the tourism front. As Tourism Minister he had ensured private investments worth Rs 730 crores into the sector. He said he had also made viable the Tourism Corporation.

Mr. Peddi Reddy said he had decided to focus on the development of his Huzurabad constituency which was otherwise neglected when he was Minister. Asked whether he would cooperate with the new two Ministers -- Messrs M. Damodar Reddy and S. Devaiah -- of the district, he said, ``They should visit me to take my suggestions for the development of the party and the district. When I was Minister I was forced to visit their residences for development of the party and implementation of Government programmes.''

He promised to provide all assistance to district Ministers. The district TDP secretary, Mr R Venkat Rao, the district grandhalaya Samstha chairman, Mr B Rajesham, and others were present.
