Dropped Minister's group plans show of strength
By Our Staff Reporter
NELLORE, DEC. 8. A section of legislators belonging to the ruling party in Nellore district, aggrieved at the recent reshuffle of the Cabinet resulting in the unseating of Mr. A. Prabhakara Reddy, has been chalking out plans to hold a public meeting and other programmes here on December 14, which is seen as a trial of strength. The legislators of Gudur, Udayagiri, Kavali and Kovur are also said to behind the move, which is seen as a challenge to the newly- appointed Information and Public Relations Minister, Mr. S. Chandramohan Reddy.
The plan of action by the dissident group includes a procession and public meeting here on December 14, before proceeding to other areas of nearby constituencies and almost on similar lines of programmes undertaken by Mr. Chandramohan Reddy, when he visited Nellore for the first time on Monday after becoming a Minister for the second time. Actually the programme of other section of MLAs was supposed to be on December 7, but postponed to December 12 and again to December 14. Meanwhile, the group has sent a requisition to the district administration, seeking a meeting on December 15, at 10.30 a.m. at Golden Jubilee Hall, here, to have a discussion on developmental activities in notified constituencies.
A letter addressed to the district Collector has requested a discussion on Food-for-work and Neeru-Meeru programmes of Udayagiri, Kavali, Allur, Kovur and Gudur constituencies and signed by respective legislators Messrs K. Vijayarami Reddy, V. Venugopala Reddy, A. Prabhakara Reddy, N. Prasannakumar Reddy and B. Durgaprasada Rao. Incidentally, the letter did not contain any date but a copy has been marked to the district TDP president, Mr. Y. Srinivasulu Reddy, for the favour of ``information.'' The requisition notice seems to be an emulation of the developments in Ranga Reddy district, where a section of dissidents has sought meetings with the local administration as a protest against the Home Minister, Mr. Devender Goud.
The Congress and other Opposition parties have been watching the developments with keen interest and their reaction is awaited. There is also a view that the dissent may be short- lived as the Chief Minister is very particular not to give scope to such type of developments. The proposed programmes on December 14 and 15 here by functionaries belonging to the TDP have become talk of the town.
