Submit revenue-raising proposals in House: Cong.
By Our Special Correspondent

TIRUCHI, DEC.8. The AIADMK government would do well introduce in the Assembly its proposals for increasing revenue to overcome the financial crunch rather than make ad hoc and hurried announcements as it did last week hiking the price of ration rice, bus fare and taxes on many commodities, Mr.E.V.K.S Elangovan, TNCC president said today. Talking to newsmen here, he said the proposals had wide-ranging implications, and affected all sections. When the Government planned to raise about Rs.6000 crores in additional levy and withdraw subsidy under the Public Distribution System it should present its plans in the Assembly, so that all parties could express their views.

The concessions announced on the eve of Friday's bandh were an eyewash and the TNCC, in consultation with other parties, would chalk out the next course of action.

The TNCC chief wanted Ms. Jayalalithaa to draw the mantle early, so that she would withdraw all new tax proposals announced recently by the Chief Minister Mr.O.Paneerselvam.

Asked about the AIADMK trying to woo the BJP in recent months, the TNCC president said the Prime Minister was prepared to accept the support of any party to bring about stability to his ``tottering'' government.

The Uttar Pradesh Assembly election would definitely be a major setback to the BJP, and it would have an impact on the future of the BJP Government at the Centre.

Mr. Elangovan claimed that a large number of persons would join the Congress in the presence of Ms.Sonia Gandhi, AICC president, when she visited Madurai on January 5. She would visit Pondicherry in the morning that day.

Our Thanjavur Staff Reporter

reports:

Addressing a party meeting in Thanjavur, Mr. Elangovan said political changes would take place both at the national and state levels after the Uttar Pradesh elections.

The myth that the Congress could not win elections without the help of either the DMK or the AIADMK was exploded in the recent local bodies elections. On the other hand, it was proved that without the Congress, the Dravidian partiescould not win elections.
